Magic has been analyzed as any sufficiently advanced technology, that seem to the observer not to have any rationality. This has been codified by Arthur C. Clark as one of his three laws, the third of which states: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

For the uninitiated, this observation is correct, and can be used as an explanation for any technology where the underlying principals are not known. When the correct axioms are used, those technologies that are called magic can have a solid basis.
